The United States confirms that it has strengthened its position as a major trading partner for Nicaragua world

The American diplomat confirmed in an audio clip with a video that he posted on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that “the United States is today the most important trading partner in the world for Nicaragua.”

That is, Nicaraguan exports to the United States grew by 23% last year compared to 2021, totaling $4,656 million, or 60.07% of the total.

Then came the countries of Central America with 1,168 million dollars, Mexico with 926 million dollars, the European Union with 440 million, Taiwan with 126 million, Canada with 93 million, and China with 36 million, according to data from the diplomatic headquarters.

In his speech, the head of mission of the Washington Embassy in Managua said that he carries out his “responsibilities with enthusiasm, a virtue that is as valuable as it is necessary to strengthen bilateral relations.”

He also added “to always maintain an honest and respectful diplomatic relationship between our two countries.”

Likewise, he stated that the United States “supports and will support Nicaraguans in their efforts to lead their country toward a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable future for all its people.”

Washington is left without an ambassador to Nicaragua as of May 19, 2023, the day its representative in Managua, Kevin Sullivan, will leave the country.

The United States was one of the countries that rejected the November 2021 electoral process in Nicaragua, in which President Daniel Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, were re-elected to office, with seven of their potential rivals in prison.

The United States remains Nicaragua’s main trading partner, a major source of family remittances and one of the preferred destinations for Nicaraguan migrants.
