Known for his monochrome style of exquisite blackwork, Michele Volpe combines his love of black and stippling with his passion for different sciences to create amazing tattoos. Drawing on his expertise in technical drawing, Volpi deftly represents everything from biological specimens to anatomical diagrams and obscure physical formulas. The tattoo idea doesn't sound great, but the talented Italian artist succeeded in implementing it.

“By combining black with stippling, I created a style that still stays with me today,” explains Volpe. “At first I was more interested in geometry, influenced by the school I attended and my passion for technical drawing, then over the years I loosened up: less geometry and mandalas, and more figurative, conceptual and scientific drawings.”

“I believe that scientific studies and all illustrations related to this world have a unique charm,” says the artist about his main source of inspiration. “It is an infinite world, interesting and full of characteristics: the beauty of anatomy, chemistry, psychological theories, the immensity of botany… all inspire and influence me greatly.”

Speaking about his choice to use only black ink in his tattoos, Michele Volpe said that black is a complete color for him. When you complete a piece of art, you never feel the need or desire to add anything else, but simply consider it accomplished.
