New record for “Coco” Muñoz

Eulalio “Coco” Muñoz had a great job at the World Athletics Championships being held in the USA.

The man from Chubut finished 41st in the marathon, among 62 athletes, with a time of 2:14:30.

It is the best mark of an Argentine marathon runner in world events, as the fourth Argentine to compete in the World Athletics Marathon, he is the first to complete the test. Alfredo Maravella (Helsinki 83), Jorge Weber (Rome 87) and Mariano Mastromarino (London 2017) were former representatives of the country.

For Muñoz, his best marathon mark is 2:09:59, in Valencia, on December 6, 2020.

The athlete from Awkache also finished sixth in South America and twelfth in the US schedule at the US World Marathon Championships.

The competition was won by Tamirat Tola, of Ethiopia who clocked 2:05:36, defeating Mosinit Jirinio (2:6:45) and Bashir Abdi (2:6:49) who finished second and third respectively.

The best American in the competition was Cameron Levis of Canada, who finished fourth, clocking 2:7d10sec, while Brazilian Daniel do Nascimento was the best South American, clocking 2:7d10sec.
