Mexico will face Ecuador in a friendly match in the United States

The Mexican Football Federation reported, on Wednesday, that the Mexican national team will face Ecuador on October 27 in a friendly match to be held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, United States.

Mexico will face Ecuador after playing its first match in the World Cup qualifiers heading to Qatar 2022 from CONCACAF, which will kick off on September 2 when it hosts Jamaica at the Azteca Stadium.

Ecuador, which played the quarter-finals in the last Copa America, will also face the Mexicans after facing the South American World Cup qualifying dates in September and October.

The Mexicans and Ecuadorians played 24 matches, with 16 victories for Mexico, five draws and three victories for South America.

The Mexican national team, led by Argentine coach Gerardo Martino, was left to serve in the mid-year tournaments as they lost the CONCACAF Nations League Final and Gold Cup to rivals the United States.

Martino has inflicted losses on key players in his scheme such as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and midfielder Luis Romo, who won the bronze medal with Mexico’s under-23 team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In addition to the absence of Olympic players, Martino lost his star striker Raul Jimenez of Wolverhampton, who has just recovered from a skull fracture.

Jimenez’s loss forced the ex-Barcelona coach to recall Rogelio Funes Mori, a nationalized Argentine-Mexican.

As of the CONCACAF qualifiers, Martino will have more options from players to call up, something he hopes will help him get back on the good track he was on as a Mexican coach.

Gerardo Martino led the Mexican team in 36 matches, with 27 wins, five draws and four defeats.
