Facebook opens a UK news portal

The Facebook News tab was only available in the US, but the Social Network is expanding its suggestion, and is a dedicated and curated news portal.

Social networks have proven to be a great way not only for people to stay in touch with their acquaintances but also to find out what is happening in their region, countries, and the world at large. The social networking site Facebook Realizes this and is promoting a new news section now available at United kingdom.

The Facebook News tab was only available at United StateHowever, the social network is expanding its proposal, which is a dedicated and curated news portal, which can be accessed through a tab in the list of Android or iOS apps.

The portal will be launched with content from hundreds of local and national media organizations, including Channel 4 News, Daily Mail Group, DC Thomson, Financial Times, Sky News, Telegraph Media Group, The Economist, The Guardian, The Independent and hundreds of local news sites including In it different lifestyles like GQ, Cosmopolitan, Glamor, and Vogue.

As with the US release, users in the UK will receive a list of the best news picks every day, as well as personalized stories based on news sources that actually follow or align with their interests. You will also find news sections devoted to sports, entertainment, health, science and technology.

Users will be able to indicate when they like stories or when they want to hide them to better train algorithms and show what they might like.

Facebook announced that, for this, it will work with a service called Upday to identify the stories that appear on the News tab. A spokesperson said, “The product is a mixture of selected distinct stories and custom links chosen mathematically.”

The tool also aims to make Facebook News provide a more balanced news mix for people who usually only get views from sites they already follow or topics they have previously shown interest in.

The company also shared that it plans to bring its news division to France and Germany. Although he did not mention dates for that.
