Brazil regains the gold medal after defeating Canada in table tennis at the Pan American Games

Santiago de Chile, November 5 (EFE).- Brazil beat Canada on Sunday in the men’s team table tennis event at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 and regained the title it lost at the Continental Games four years ago.

Led by Hugo Calderano, who had just been crowned a three-time All-American champion in singles, the Brazilian team easily beat the Canadians 3-1.

In the first match of the dispute, the Brazilian duo Vitor Ishi and Eric Guti quickly defeated Canadians Simeon Martin and Eugene Wang 3-0, in sets of 11-9, 11-5, and 11-6.

The attack was similar in the second half (3-1), in which Calderano, after the first set won by Canadian Edward Lee 10-12, attacked his opponent forcefully in the next three games, which ended with scores of 11-0, 11-5 and 11-4.

Canada responded in the third group, with Wang defeating his rival, Guti, 0-3, in a difficult confrontation for the North American player after sets of 9-11, 8-11, and 10-12.

The Brazilian attack came in the fourth match again with Calderano’s 3-0 victory over Martin after parts 11-6, 11-9 and 11-7.

Brazil took one of the two bronzes in Lima after being champion in Toronto 2015, a year in which Canada was at the bottom of the podium. Since then, the North American country has been unable to reach the podium.

But the historical champion is the United States with 23 gold. Followed by Brazil with 17 and Canada with 14.
