In November 2023, Volaris El Salvador begins its new direct route to the United States. Chicago becomes the airline’s eighth route from the Central American country.

Starting November 3, the airline connects San Salvador, El Salvador, via Guatemala City, with O’Hare Airport in Chicago, Illinois.

A stop in Guatemala City will allow customers boarding the country to fly directly to Chicago, according to Volares.

“This new route from Volaris El Salvador to Chicago allows us to continue shortening distances and bringing families together when traveling between El Salvador, Guatemala and the United States,” said Ronnie Rodriguez, Director of Corporate Development at Volaris.

According to airline figures, more than 11,000 Salvadorans and 25,000 Guatemalans live in Chicago.

But the width is wider. In total, approximately 244,000 Central Americans live in Illinois. The Central Americans with the largest presence are Guatemalans (120,000), followed by Hondurans (90,000) and Salvadorans (70,000), according to figures from the Central American Culture Association of the United States, cited by the El Chicago Tribuna.
