The Basque Government and the Organization of Ibero-American States will work to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture

Lihindakari, Iñigo Orcolo, and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Ibero-American States, Mariano Gabonero, agreed this Thursday, at a meeting in Madrid, to renew and expand the cooperation programs between Euskadi and the OEI in matters of education and science. At the meeting, Urculo and Gabonero addressed the renewal of the cooperation agreement that they both signed in February 2021, which aims to develop joint works in education, science and culture between the Basque community and the Ibero-American community. So far, the agreement has allowed us to develop “broad joint action”, especially in the field of higher and technical-vocational education, as the Basque Government said in a statement. Research and Technology The meeting also addressed the development of research related to education and technological change, “taking into account opportunities and risks in areas of common interest, such as automation and the devaluation of knowledge in Latin America.” Likewise, the door has been opened for Basque universities to actively participate in the regional strategy of the OEI initiative called “Universidad Iberoamérica 2030”, which aims to create a common space for higher education and research. In this way, various possible lines of cooperation are being considered, such as exchange of information and experience, mobility grants for teachers and students, joint research projects, internships, as well as other joint strategies that promote the internationalization of Ibero-American universities.
