Washington Soccer Team Quarterback Taylor Heinek He scored his best performance as a professional during Washington’s 31-23 post-season loss to Tampa Bay Pirates Saturday evening, something he hopes will keep him in rotation in Washington moving forward. When announced that the quarterback Alex Smith Not fit with a calf injury, Heinicke stepped up and almost pulled what would have been a surprise to the books in his second start only.
In front of the Pirates on Saturday night, Heinicke completed 26 of 44 passes for 306 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also led Washington in the dash at 46 yards and landing six carts. The undisputed former free agent from Old Dominion had spent stints with two different NFL teams, but Ron Rivera – who gave him his first career start with Carolina Panthers – Always keep it close. After losing Saturday Night, which also marked the conclusion of his one-year contract, Heinek told reporters that he was comfortable with Rivera and made clear that he hoped his future would be in Washington.
“I love Ron,” Hayneke told reporters. Via JP Finlay from NBC Sports Washington. “I want to go back to Washington.”
Heinicke might feel he’s still contending for a spot on the list, but he’s likely played himself for little money or at least a guaranteed spot on the NFL list at Super Wild-Card Weekend. He was on the losing side of things against the pirates, but arguably he was the player of the game. Late in the third quarter, he led a seven-game, 61-yard race that capped an incredible eight yards for the landing.
The Henecki Championships at that point narrowed the gap to just two points. After turning Tampa Bay into a field goal on the ensuing possession, Heineeke and Washington’s attack took the field with an opportunity to take the lead. Instead, the backup caller injured his left shoulder and was escorted into the locker room while Washington tossed the ball away. He came back only minutes later, however, driving 11 games, 75 yards leading to a drop – a pretty dime a dozen from 11 yards. Stephen Sims Cut the difference to six points before Washington lost in the end.
Heinicke may have a few options to choose from this season, but with how comfortable he seems to be with Rivera, Washington may have found the real second quarterback.
