Russian top seed Daniil Medvedev won the Canadian Masters title on Sunday to reach three titles of the season and 12 of his career with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over American Riley Opelka.

Medvedev, 25, is ranked second in the world this year in Mallorca and Marseille. He saved all the break points he faced and won 73% of the points with his serve.

Opelka played his first ATP Masters 1000 final. The 23-year-old American was the No. 23 in the world.

In Montreal, Italian Camila Giorgi completed an astonishing streak at the National Bank Open by defeating Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Pliskova on Sunday 6-3, 7-5 and lifted the Canadian Masters title in her first WTA 1000 final.

Giorgi, who arrived unranked and ranked 71st in the world, relied on a strong serve to beat Pliskova, ranked sixth and fourth in the world, taking 71% of his first serve points and finishing with seven aces.

Italian ninth seed Elise Mertens in the first round eliminated seventh seed Petra Kvitova in the round of 16 and 15th seed Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals.

Giorgi dominated the match on Sunday by breaking Pliskova’s serve and leading 4-3 in the first set, the result of which the Czech threw her racket on the field.

Pliskova was playing in her first tournament since losing three sets to world number one Ash Party in the Wimbledon final.
