Athletes from Oaxaca stand out on the first day of action at the 2024 Canadian Open – State Government Social Communications Coordination

The Oaxacan delegation won 2 gold and 2 bronze medals

Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca. February 9, 2024.- Oaxaca's name was echoed at the top of the podium with the outstanding participation of the Oaxaca Taekwondo team on the first day of the 2024 Canadian Open, where it won two gold and two bronze medals.

Canada Place, located in Vancouver, is the venue for this competition from February 8 to 10, which awards 20 points for the international classification, heading towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Under the supervision of Professor Victor Arroyo, the Oaxacan team of William Arroyo, Gabriela Hernandez, Yaritzy Torralba, Sergio Reyes, Raul Martínez, Sandra Cadena and Alfonso Arroo captured its first medals, raising the profile of Oaxaca and Mexico.

The gold medal went to Pan American medalist William Arroyo after he participated in the individual freestyle in the men's over-17 category. Later, Sergio Reyes Martinez also won the second gold medal in the individual freestyle in the men's under-17 category.

Bronze was achieved with Raul Martinez in the individual freestyle, men's over-17 category. And also with taekwondoin Gabriela Hernandez in the women's under-17 individual freestyle Poomsae category.

It should be noted that this event, the first on the Pan American calendar in this discipline, is a transcendental affair for those seeking in the Poomsae way for a better position in a World Championship year.
