Cuban sports, as in 2022, is experiencing another very complicated year in terms of the losses of its national teams due to withdrawals from tournaments abroad. Recently, in less than a week, I lost four athletes from combat disciplines.

We reported here on Tuesday about Havana wrestler Hanhelen Yanes (68kg) deciding not to return to the island, after a training base in France heading to the upcoming Pan American Games in Chile 2023.

Three judo players from the women’s team will not participate in the aforementioned multi-sport continental event. They are Zamaret Gregorio (48kg), Yurislidi Hernandez (52kg) and the experienced Arnis Odilin (57kg), who have decided to stay in Calgary, Canada, where the Pan American and Oceania Championships are being held this weekend. The information was told to Cobalet by a source close to the national team.

β€œIn the group tournament, Brazil beat Cuba in the final 4-0, and when I watch the event online, I realize that 57 kilograms of our country’s weight is empty. I quickly called one of the team members and told her that I did not see Arnis. I asked her if she was injured or stayed and she said yes She, Zamarit and Yurislidi left the delegation, while the women’s national team coach, Darleski Leal Calzado, from Santiago de Cuba, also remained.

Among the trio of judokas, the most successful on the international scene is Odilin (25 years old) from Santiago, who did not compete on Canadian soil due to health problems, as Andres Tano, Secretary General of the Cuban Federation, told ACN. World Championship participant and king at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023, he won medals of all colors in various Pan American competitions.
