What is monkeypox, a disease that is common in Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom

In Madrid, 23 people were diagnosed with monkeypox – also known as monkeypox – a disease that causes fever, swollen glands and rashes on the hands and face. In Portugal, for its part, five cases have been diagnosed.

Speaking to the press, a spokesman for the Society for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (SEIMC), Fernando de la Cali, stressed that it is always easier for a respiratory virus such as Covid or influenza to turn into a pandemic, but in theory the monkey virus or “monkeypox” has Less epidemiological capacity because it forces you to live with a sick person.

The first human cases of the disease were identified in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1970, and the number has increased over the past decade in West and Central African countries.
