UNS 2023 begins with Medicine and Law as the most selective

Classes begin today at Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS), 67 years after its inception and with the admission of 5,533 new students, 7% fewer than last year’s enrollment, which will add to the nearly 25,000 who have already studied races at that house.

Again, as in recent years, medicine is the most chosen profession, with a total of 560 enrollments, of which only 64 enter because it is a profession with a fixed quota.

The second most chosen course of study is law, with an enrollment of 488, maintaining its presence among the top three positions in the past five years, and peaking at 658 in 2020.

In third place came another proposal from the Department of Health Sciences, which is the nursing degree, which added 361 students.

Fourth place corresponds to Architecture, one of the most recent UNS proposals, which since its inception, in 2016, has maintained an average score of more than 300. This year he added 350 annotations.

Finally, the closing five most chosen, Information Systems Engineering, with 322 students, will appear.

Engineering in general, UNS foundation courses, maintains an interesting number of entrants, leading Industrial Engineering (with 159), Agronomy (153), Chemistry (104), Computing (104) and Civil and Mechanics, both with 77.

Without being degree courses, technical degrees, which last for three years and offer an interesting job opportunity, have been consolidated within the university structure. A good example of this is the university technician in the therapeutic accompaniment, which this year reached 528 enrollments.

Also noted was the interest aroused by the Technical University Degree in Industrial Processes, with 135 students, from Parks and Gardens, 40, and the interest of intelligent industrial electronic systems, with 36 students.

Scent of a woman

As a color fact, 59% of respondents in 2023 are women, a percentage that has been going on for years. Although this relationship has been verified in almost all genera, it is evident that the presence of females is higher in some genera.

In biochemistry, 83% are women, in medicine their presence reaches 75%, 78% in nursing, 83% in technical therapeutic support.

The percentage is lower in occupations such as information systems engineering (21%), mechanical engineering (15%), and industrial process technician (17%).

Medicine, that phenomenon

The Department of Health Sciences has, for years, focused on the highest percentage of enrollments. Three of its jobs — nursing, medical and therapeutic companion technology — 1,449 of them registered this year, 26% of all enrolments.

Added to this, the dictation of the Bachelor of Obstetrics started this year, with 878 people enrolled during 2022, which is a staggering number. But, like medicine, obstetrics has conditions that greatly reduce the number of students who can finally take the degree.

Dr. Pablo Bader, dean of this department, explained to La Nueva. That although obstetrics does not have a share, it does have a leveling process that undoubtedly requires.

“This year, 350 people have passed it partially – and they will be able to take only some subjects of the plan – and 87 in all.”

Another important point is that this year the requirement to pass a one-year degree course in order to enroll in medicine has been abolished.

In the previous year it was no longer done. There is now a University Affiliation Course (TAU), which this year has been implemented by 560 registered students seeking to reach the quota of 62 students. This limitation relates to the way in which the degree is developed, which requires about 3,000 hours of practice in local hospitals (the average score is 800) and that is the number of students that health institutions can accommodate.”

Badr indicated that strategies are being analyzed to expand this share, but it is a possibility conditioned by the places where this practice can be developed.

Since it is no longer required to pass a previous year in a degree course, the true will of the students at the time of enrollment in, for example, a Bachelor of Nursing degree, one of the most frequently selected courses to meet this requirement, would have been sincere.

“Since admission is no longer related to another profession, nursing students are their own. Nursing is a profession with an average of 90 titles annually. A proportion of these graduates correspond to specialist nurses who have completed two years of a bachelor’s degree. Finally, the technician in therapeutic accompaniment is the most enrolled and graduates in Institutional History of the United Nations University.Among the cohort of junior students, in 2019, 280 students have already graduated.
