Trade and Investment: Cafiero received the Canadian Ambassador

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero held a meeting yesterday with the new Canadian Ambassador to Argentina, Red Douglas Sears, where they discussed with him the bilateral economic agenda and exchanged views on issues of common interest in the region and the world.

During the meeting, the bilateral work agenda was discussed, and in this context, joint positions and actions in “defending human rights and gender equality, actions taken against climate change, in addition to economic, trade and investment aspects” were highlighted.

Cafiero and Ceres emphasized that Canada is “the tenth investor in Argentina and the first in the field of mining, with its spread in several Argentine provinces,” making both countries “important strategic partners in this field,” the State Department said.

The officials agreed to work together to “deepen and diversify trade and investment, tapping into the high potential of both countries in areas such as agri-food and primarily energy sector.” They also highlighted the importance of the meeting held by President Alberto Fernandez and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in October last year in Rome, on the occasion of the G20 Leaders Summit.
