US Chargé d’Affairs to Paraguay Joe Salazar said they wish peace and order for the Paraguayan people, “friends and partners.” He also said that the rule of law is the cornerstone of democracy.
The words of the American delegate came after a demonstration that took place on Friday in front of Congress, which resulted in clashes between police officers and citizens, leaving more than 25 injured, in addition to one deceased, whose circumstances are still under investigation.

These violent events led to an urgent meeting of the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, with senators, representatives and ministers on Friday evening.
Abdou Benitez’s first decision was to request all of his ministers and executive secretaries to free up their posts, although the changes to be made have yet to be announced.

However, the opposition has already announced that it will promote a political trial and support the demonstrations, with the aim of achieving the resignation or dismissal of Mario Abdo Benítez and Vice President Hugo Velasquez.
