The unbeaten “Tornado” is over: La Celeste lost to Iran in one of the last friendlies before the World Cup.

Uruguay will play a friendly match again next Tuesday at 1:00 pm in Slovakia against Canada.

On Friday, Diego Alonso suffered a first defeat at the head of the Uruguayan national team in the friendly match that was held in Austria against Iran. The match ended with a goal for nothing, thanks to the goal of Mehdi Tarmi, the center of the attack for the Asian team, in the 79th minute.

After the score, one of the most worrying points for the coach occurred as soon as the match started. After 30 seconds, defender Ronald Araujo felt in the adductor area and had to leave the field without even touching the ball. He was replaced by Agustín Rogel, who made his debut in the first team.

The first half was of two different phases: the first 35 boring minutes – only a powerful right-footed Darwin Nunez in the 14th minute clearing the goalkeeper brought danger to goals – and the last ten minutes with Uruguay in control.

Suarez had two plays to score while Matías Oliveira, one of Uruguay’s best in the first stage, had a good run that ended with a shot without power and in the hands of Alireza Beiranvand.

At the start of the second half, Nicolás de la Cruz entered Facundo Pelistre and was the best in Celeste. In the 67th minute, he sent two crosses that ended with goal chances. At first a corner kick was headed by Sebastian Caceres and the defender hit it on the line, and seconds later, another low shot was tied by Matias Vecino and found the goalkeeper.

Iran’s first clear exit came in the 65th minute. Kaddous and Al-Turabi announced what they would achieve after 14 minutes with a good wall that ended with the attacker’s heart defining the body. Rocher covered and rebounded, which al-Turabi could not take advantage of.

The goal came in the 79th minute with a mixture of Qudous and Tourabi across the right area of Celeste’s defense. The center of the first was connected to the striker, veering into Sebastian Caceres and leaving Rochet with no options.

In the last 10 minutes, La Celeste had options to score, and Luis Suarez was the main champion, but without being able to hit the three places.

Thus Tornado has gone seven matches unbeaten since taking over at La Celeste in January, already racking up six wins and one draw.

Uruguay will play a friendly match again next Tuesday at 1:00 pm in Slovakia against Canada.
