Benjumea declared that since the beginning of the South Summit, the idea has been to change mindsets to reach the global. He added that “the world has no borders” and its commitment has always been cooperation and innovation from a global context.
The South Summit indicated that the combined value of the entrepreneurial ecosystem worldwide decreased by 2.3% in 2022. However, in the Spanish case, its value increased by 8.6%, to 93,000 million euros. (approximately €84,400), according to data provided by PwC Spain Partners in the presentation of the Report on the Social and Economic Contribution of the South Summit in Spain.
As this same report points out, Madrid has established itself as “one of the main” hubs “for European innovation, with an ecosystem of around 2,500 start-ups, which will create 37,000 jobs and 1,275 million euros in 2022.
The city’s mayor, José Luis Martínez Almeida, who presided over the event this Thursday in Madrid, assured that the city council would continue to support the Summit of the South and thanked María Benjumea for everything she did for the city and for being a “real entrepreneurial accelerator”.
For her part, Carme Artigas, Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, publicly suggested to Maria Benjumea that “to benefit from the upcoming meeting of ESNA (European Alliance of Emerging Nations), the Summit of the South has a leading role and advances what it is doing in Spain, while strengthening relations with Europe and Latin America.”

The PwC report also indicates that the startups finalists for the various editions of the South Summit have doubled their turnover by 13.9 since the moment they participated in the meeting.
