Bloomberg – Two British government ministers say they have been contacted by a fraudster impersonating Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyal.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace blamed Russia’s “dirty tricks” for the call he received on Thursday, saying on Twitter it was a “desperate attempt” to divert attention from “human rights abuses and Russia’s” illegal “invasion of Ukraine” by Russia.
Britain’s Home Secretary Priti Patel later said the same thing had happened to her this week. “Pathetic attempt to divide us at such a difficult time,” he wrote on Twitter. We are with Ukraine.
The disclosed information raises questions about how the fraudster was able to contact two senior UK officials by phone. Wallace, who later said to times As it was a video call, he reported that he ended the conversation after becoming suspicious when he “asked several misleading questions”.
