Tennis – Fruvhirtova and Pinnington both won the Merengue Cup

The 29th edition of the J2 Santo Domingo was successfully completed at the facilities of the National Tennis Center in Parque del Este.

Jack Pennington Jones of Great Britain and Linda Frovertova of the Czech Republic were the singles winners in the first two international tournaments organized by the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis).

Fruvhirtova beat American Gracie Epps 6-2 6-1 in an hour and a half of play and won her second (singles) title on the World Youth Tour.

On her way to the title, the Czechs beat Canadian Martina Ostrzigalo 6-2, 6-0 in the first stage. Then, in the Better Sixteen Round, she defeated Belgian Amelia and Eligora in two sets (6-1, 6-0). In the quarter-finals she defeated Swedish Clara Milicevic 6-3, 6-1, and to move to the definition, she defeated Canadian Marina Stakocic 6-1, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Bennington-Jones won the championship match after defeating Swedish Leo Borg in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). The 17-year-old Brit thus earned his third (singles) and first title on fast rooftops individually.

Also on Saturday, the qualifying round for the Los Tres Ogos Cup began, a second-tier tournament of the ITF Youth Circuit that will feature prominent figures from the ITF World Junior Tennis Championship.

Both events award 200 points to the singles and doubles winners in both the men’s and women’s teams.

The event will feature tennis players under 18 years of age from Estonia, Israel, Serbia, Poland, Peru, Italy, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Lithuania, Japan, Mexico, France, Malaysia, Greece, Denmark and Russia, among other countries.

The Peruvian competitions are supervised by Giulio Caveiro by the ITF, while the general direction is in charge of Sergio Tobal, Vice President of the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis).
