Successful Forum on Gender and Diversity in Science, Technology and Innovation

Before a crowded hall in the auditorium “Ezequiel Soria” of the Catamarca cinema, a forum was held on Gender and Diversity in Science, Technology and Innovation, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technological Innovation.

With the participation of prominent speakers from local, national and international media and live broadcasts of Catamarca National Radio, the aim of the event was to assess developments related to gender equality and information and communication technology (ICT) in the province. In addition to motivating and promoting women from Catamarca in the scientific and technological field, exchanging information about the policies, programs and strategies being implemented in the province, the country and the world.

The Forum suggested implementing a set of measures that encourage the digital inclusion of all groups of women, especially those who have fewer opportunities, such as those living in indigenous, rural and disabled people. For this it has been suggested:

Digital literacy programs for an informed knowledge of ICT, in particular the opportunities it offers to highlight and enhance women’s capabilities and the social and cultural impact of their organizations.

– Acquisition of information and communication technology. It is proposed as a goal to be achieved in the medium and long term to ensure the participation of women as creators of technological content, tools and applications. Many of the interventions express the need to motivate and train them to develop and use free software.

Equal opportunities for professional development in the scientific and technological fields. Encouraging women’s access and training in computer science and engineering fields in which they are still a minority. Facilitate their entry into senior decision-making positions in academic fields, businessmen and political organizations related to ICT.

– Implementing initiatives that allow them to know and exercise their rights, and citizen monitoring of public policies and the private sector. Promoting the exchange of experiences in this field in different countries through the creation of virtual networks and communities.

Work electronically. Training them for a qualified integration into this type of work, ensuring decent working conditions.

– Develop quantitative and qualitative studies and research that focus on the experiences of men and women with regard to information and communication technology and the transformations they produce in their daily lives and in their areas of belonging.

Implementing policies that ensure equal access for women and men of different social sectors and ages to formal and/or non-formal education, in particular scientific and technological training.

Develop and use gender indicators to assess access to and use of ICTs, incorporating differences according to marital status, place of residence (urban/rural), age, etc.

Words of welcome were delivered by the Minister of Science and Technology Innovation, Lic. Isauro Molina, who thanked the audience for their presence and participation in this important forum.

Theses

The points discussed in the forum were wide and varied. On this occasion, the topic “Education, Technology and Diversity”, which inspired future leaders, was discussed by Pia Torres, an electronic engineer, specializing in continuous improvement processes and project management.

Another topic was “Science and Technology”, by Gloria del Valle Quevedo (Doctor and Director of the School of Biology in the School of Exact and Natural Sciences at UNCA.

“Public Policies” were also addressed by Ivana Ibáñez and Tamara Franco, Secretariat for Women, Gender and Diversity of the Province of Catamarca.

Another important point discussed in the forum was “Gender and Diversity in the Science of Inclusion Denial”, by the famous Doctor of Engineering Sciences Fran de Castro Bobani, a Brazilian citizen and resident of our country. It should be noted that the professional is a university professor at the Instituto Balseiro and after realizing herself as a woman, she became the first transient researcher in the research profession of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) in Argentina.

The Provincial Department of Health was also present at the forum with the topic ‘Gender and Health’ Educational Tribune: Glifing, whose thesis was delivered by Ms. Monica Chavez, Regional Director of the Health Portfolio Therapy Centre.

Developments in the field of gender equality also covered the field of communication media, with the Director of Radio Catamarca Nacional, Sonia Luna, among other topics of interest, the topic “Gender, media and society”, with an important public framework bringing together in the Gender Forum Diversity in science, technology and innovation.

The professor also attended. Azusina Luna on behalf of HIDROPER and the Economic Union where she commented on entrepreneurs from a gender perspective Finally the Women+40 Career Reintegration Program was introduced, where technical and technological tools for special projects will be presented, from the Women Force organization.

At the end of the event, the appropriate certificates were handed over to the participants.
