British drivers in Spain now have to hide or remove the traditional GB label, use the UK sticker instead, or keep a tray of ‘important’ UK.
The UK government said: “If your license plate has any of the following, it must clearly display the UK sticker on the back of your vehicle: GB ID with the Union flag; Euro symbol; National flag of England, Scotland or Wales; only numbers and letters , no knowledge or identifier.
“If you have a GB sticker, cover or remove it before driving outside the UK.”
The GB sticker rule went into effect on Tuesday, September 28, and requires a British sticker to be driven in Spain regardless of the vehicle’s license plate.
The British Embassy in Madrid has also issued a new warning about animal passports and travel documents for traveling to Spain with animals.
He said the rules had changed this year and that “a British-issued EU pet passport is not valid for travel to the EU or Northern Ireland”.
The British Embassy has advised people traveling with pets to speak to their vet as soon as possible.
He said: “Get the necessary documents for your pets from your vet before you travel and make sure you comply with the EU’s pet travel regulations.”
Travelers must use an EU or Northern Ireland pet passport, and every dog, cat or ferret entering Spain must have a microchip, rabies vaccine, and animal health certificate.
