Former CEO of the Department of Health Insurance (ASES) and the Life Insurance Cooperative (Cosvi), Ricardo Rivera Cardona, will take over the management of Medicare y Mucho Más (MMM) and MMM MultiHealth, after last month, its current president Orlando Gonzalez will also be responsible for Anthem’s operations. Inc. in the eastern United States.
Rivera Cardona will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and will report to Gonzalez.
Anthem bought MMM’s Puerto Rican operations last year, and last March its shareholders authorized the transfer of the health organization’s corporate identity to Elibility Inc.
“We in Ricardo have found the ideal person to continue the successful path of medical MMM plans into the future and continue to innovate in health for our seniors in the Medicare Advantage sector and provide the best care for Vital Plan beneficiaries,” Gonzalez noted in a written statement announcing Rivera Cardona’s appointment.
After managing an industrial development company, Rivera Cardona developed a career in the health sector, which included managing ASES and Cosvi.
Prior to her appointment at MMM, Rivera Cardona worked for Refulgent Strategies, a New York health organization consultancy, whose client portfolio represents more than $12.5 billion in premiums.
Rivera Cardona holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Cornell University, and another Master’s degree in Health Services Administration from Columbia University. He is a member of the Aspen Institute Health Innovator Fellowship and the Aspen Global Leadership Network. He was recently appointed to the New York State Health Insurance Administrative Streamlining Working Group in 2020 by former New York Governor Chris Cuomo and to the New York State Medicare Managed Care Advisory Review Committee in 2021 by Governor Cathy Hochhol.
