R. United. – The United Kingdom launched a campaign to urge Albanian immigrants not to cross the English Channel – Spain

The British government, led by Rishi Sunak, launched an advertising campaign on social networks on Sunday urging Albanian migrants not to cross illegally into the UK via the English Channel.

“If you arrive in the UK illegally, you will not be granted asylum and you will be detained and deported,” warned the message, which was broadcast in Albanian on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Britain’s Immigration Secretary, Robert Jenrick, confirmed that the initiative would “work proactively at ‘the source’ before people take dangerous and unnecessary journeys”, though he did not detail the cost of the campaign.

He emphasized that “the campaign is just one component of the Home Office’s previous work to help dispel myths about illegal travel to the UK, explain the facts and fight the lies of the people smugglers who profit from this sordid trade.”

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama had already in March criticized the “shameful” manner in which British Home Secretary Soila Braverman targeted Albanian migrants crossing the English Channel.
