Panama will host the Pan American Surfing World Cup, after the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), Pandeportes and the Panama Surf Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding to hold the event.
The competition will take place from August 5 to 13 this year in Playa Veño, Piedasi District in Los Santos Province, a world-class destination for this type of sport.
300 competitors in the Pan American Surfing Championships, which will be held for the first time on the land of the Isthmus, will represent the federations of countries such as: Brazil, Panama, Barbados, Ecuador, the United States, Nicaragua, Canada, El Salvador, Argentina, Colombia and others.
With this event, for more than 12 days, Panama will be on the radar of various countries and will focus a large number of fans of this sport, both nationally and internationally, which will allow economic activity of great value to the tourism sector.
The Director General of ATP, Evan Eskildsen, noted that surfing competitions have been shown to help position countries as destinations by creating an environment that attracts visitors and investments. “We have a roadmap to implement several events that will allow us to further develop Panama’s position as a surfing destination.
He also said that it is through this kind of sporting activity that a story is created to tell and the host country has the opportunity to show its tourism offer around the world.
Playa Venao has been the scene of international surfing competitions and is considered by the organizers of these events as the site that brings together the infrastructure to carry out the sport and to accommodate the athletes who will be accompanied by coaches and even family members.
