One of the UK’s most wanted fugitives was arrested in Spain

London, May 11 (EFE). – A coordinated operation between British and Spanish security forces led to the arrest in Malaga of Mark Francis Roberts, one of the most wanted criminals on the run in the UK, the British agency reported. Thursday. National Crime Association (NCA).

Civil Guard officers arrested Roberts, 29, who fled seven years ago and is accused of attempted robbery and causing grievous bodily harm, on Wednesday evening in the town of Estepona.

The detainee, who remains in custody pending the development of extradition procedures, is alleged to have attempted to steal a man’s watch worth £60,000 (€69,000).

His last known address to British security forces was at Fairfield, west of Liverpool.

Merseyside (Liverpool) Police believe Roberts was involved in an attack on 30 September 2016 in which two people armed with a knife approached a man who had just been stopped outside his home after midnight.

The agency said that the victim refused to hand over his watch and suffered serious injuries, as a result of which he was transferred to intensive care and was about to end his life.

Steve Reynolds, head of the British Agency for Spain, said in a statement that “Roberts’ arrest was made possible by an ongoing campaign to track him and the great work of the Civil Guard.”

Reynolds added, “Working with our colleagues at home and abroad, including our highly valued Spanish partners, we will continue to track down fugitives.”

Last February, the NCA appealed to the Spanish public to help find seven of the country’s most wanted fugitives suspected of hiding in Spain, including Roberts.

The list that has been released consists of seven men who are suspected of having some connections in Spain, and even, there is evidence that they may have been or have been to specific places such as Marbella or other places on the Costa del Sol. EFE
