The F1 promoter said on Wednesday that the Netflix series “Drive to Survive” about the 2021 Formula 1 season will air on the platform from March 11 in the form of ten episodes.
This is the fourth season of this documentary series, which takes a look at the insider’s mainstream car racing competition that was so successful in previous installments. The premiere is scheduled shortly before the start of the 2022 F1 season in Bahrain on March 20.
Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was crowned Formula 1 world champion for the first time in 2021 after a controversial finish in Abu Dhabi in December. He beat seven-time British world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) on the last lap after a safety car intervention.
Verstappen decided last year not to take part in filming the series, accusing Netflix of “creating rivalries that don’t really exist”.
“I’m not the type to use his life to make a show, I’m more interested in facts and the truth,” said the Dutchman, acknowledging that the series was “essential to increasing F1’s popularity in the United States”.
Although he decided not to give interviews to Netflix, Verstappen will appear in the fourth season through images provided by the tournament organizers.
