Montoya endorses a proposal to create a Ministry of Science and Technology

Modesto Montoya, a member of the Peru Liberian party’s technical team, insisted on his proposal to create a Ministry of Science and Technology.

The nuclear physicist commented that countries such as China, Japan and Finland have improved their economic stability after betting on science and technology. He also clarified that its main function for this entity will be to encourage scientific research.

“Countries that were previously poor and are now rich have achieved this with science and technology, but our country depends only on raw materials and minerals,” Montoya told Exitosa.

“We want a science and technology policy through the Ministry of Science and Technology, whereby the political decisions of Peru are determined in the Council of Ministers and the National Council for Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (Concytec) give a few crumbs,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, Montoya requested not to be exposed to the exploitation of minerals or raw materials, because these resources cannot be replenished, and at some point they will end up being depleted. In addition, he added, “science is necessary for the development of any country,” because “Peru cannot survive only by exporting minerals.”
