La Jornada – They are investigating alleged labor violations against 40 Mexicans in Canada

The Mexican Consulate in Quebec, Canada, has asked the authorities of that country to investigate the case of a group of Mexican workers allegedly victims of labor abuse on a farm where they were irregularly employed, along with day laborers in Guatemala.

The consular representation made it clear that it was dealing with the case after the Canadian authorities and the Immigrant Welfare Organization informed it of the situation on Jean Lemay’s farm, which is undergoing a review of its working conditions, and which it is facing due to various anomalies. Abuse penalties.

This farm apparently “employs approximately 40 Mexicans, presumably established under irregular conditions,” the entity said in a statement.

He added that these people are not part of the temporary agricultural workers program established between the governments of the countries concerned, so they are individuals who were recruited independently or in an irregular immigration status.

The consulate added that it is in talks with the federal and provincial authorities, as well as with workers and with the Guatemalan Consulate in Montreal, to find out the personal situation of each aggrieved citizen, the support they, if they are victims of abuse, they can receive and the needs they may face in the event of their repatriation, where it has been cut off. They are currently in Quebec.
