Poland’s Iga Swiatek, the number one seed in women’s tennis, beat Croatian Donna Vekic in three sets on Sunday in the final of the tournament.
(California) lifted his eighth trophy this season.
Swiatek defeated Vekic, ranked 77th in the world, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in one hour and 47 minutes of play.
Vekic, 26, was forced to wrap up her semi-final match against American Danielle Collins on Sunday morning, which was interrupted Saturday night due to rain.
The Croatian, who resumed the match with a 2-4 lead in the third set, ended up ruling the crossover for the final 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7/2).
With only a few hours of rest, Vekic couldn’t beat Swatek who, after giving up the second set, was able to claim victory with a devastating final set in which she broke her opponent three times.
“It was a very close and very long match. No doubt we feel lonely“I wanted to do my best, and see how Donna could advance, I wanted to be more free in the rematches: don’t think, just relax and follow my intuition,” Swiatek said.
