How God Works: The Science Behind the Benefits of Religion

In three parts we’ll publish in three parts the five main ideas we can take from the latest book by David Destino, professor of psychology at Northeastern University and author of Emotional Success and the Truth About Trust, and co-author of Out of Personality: How God Works: The Science Behind the Benefits of Debt . These lessons will talk about social, scientific, psychological, as well as economic and financial aspects. We think it’s helpful to give you enough space on these pages. Let’s Begin:

1. Put aside your opinions.

One of the things I’ve found writing about the intersection of science and religion is that doctrines (Catholic, Judaism, Buddhism, and atheism) often get in the way of people working together. They end up putting us in teams when, in fact, scholars and religious thinkers have the same goal: to improve people’s lives. Let’s put theology aside, and most of our power will accompany it, allowing us to discover why people who engage in spiritual practices tend to live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
