Canada: Processing progresses for the Delta 4 port expansion project at the quay

Pier 4 Expansion Project (DP4) at Deltaport Global Container Terminals (GCT), Located in Vancouver, Canada, it has reached another milestone in the coordinated impact assessment process. The British Columbia Environmental Assessment Agency (BCEAO) issued the process order for the project and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) issued final joint guidance for moving the DP4 project to the impact statement development stage.

GCT stated, “We want to thank the regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, stakeholders and supply chain partners for their commitment and collaboration in achieving this milestone. But there is a lot of work ahead.”

Impact evaluation

The process order and organizational coordination plan/common permits provide assessment procedures and methods, permits, details of the project scope, what information should be provided, how information should be collected and analyzed, who should be involved, how it should be contracted, and the timing of subsequent stages of the environmental assessment. This stage of the CIA provides for a period of up to three years to submit the impact statement. GCT “will endeavor to deliver the impact statement as soon as possible, if possible, through engagement and collaboration with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and our supply chain partners.”

The GCT Deltaport expansion plans to add four berths to the existing terminal. DP4 will add up to 2 million TEUs of new capacity, in line with demand.

On the West Coast, GCT Canada operates two entry terminals, GCT Vanterm and GCT Deltaport in Vancouver.
