The Canadian national team is going through a historic moment, as it will be present again at the World Cup after a 36-year absence after Mexico 1986. After an impressive qualification in the CONCACAF qualifiers, where they finished first with Mexico, the Great White North will try to make a coup in Group F with strong European candidates.
British coach John Herdman has achieved what until recently seemed impossible. With a group of talented youngsters, such as Alfonso Davies and Jonathan David, playing in the top teams in Europe, the Canadians will debut in the World Cup finals against strong Belgium, followed by veteran Croatia and will finish the group stage against Morocco, who are all of them. The lights indicate victory and the dream of passing to the round of 16.

Canada and Argentina, with a little history in between
Canada and Argentina have faced each other only once in history. In the run-up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the team led by Diego Maradona bid farewell to their fans and won 5-0 in a friendly match played at the Monumental Stadium, with goals from Maxi Rodriguez (2), D. Maria, Tevez and Aguero.
Mexico 1986, Canada’s only World Cup experience
Canada played its only World Cup in Mexico 1986 and it happened after receiving the remaining share of CONCACAF, because the Mexicans confirmed this by being the host. The funny thing is that the Canadians had several casualties because many of their players competed in the North American League.
The playoffs began in April 1985 and the problem for the select team was that the North American League ended in October 1984, so they would arrive without rhythm of play. In order not to lose competitiveness, Canadian football players played in the amateur leagues and in the Major Indoor Football League, a five-a-side American football league. After passing the preliminary stage, they beat Haiti, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Honduras taking advantage of the low temperatures in their countries that affected their rivals.
At the World Cup in Mexico, the Canadians faced a very difficult Group C: in their first appearance they fell to France 1-0 (Papain), then lost to Hungary (Marton Esterhazy-Lagos Detari), and finally were defeated. From the USSR 2-0 (Oleg Blokhin Alexander Zafarov).
