Biden signs historic bill to boost US chips and compete with China

In the United States, Joe Biden yesterday signed a bill to promote American chips and compete with those in China. It is a landmark bill that would provide $52.7 billion in support for US semiconductor research and production and to enhance US competitiveness against China’s science and technology efforts.

“The future will be made in the United States,” Biden said yesterday, while calling the measure a “unique investment in the United States in and of itself.” What is not yet clear is how long it will take the US Department of Commerce to set the rules for reviewing and accepting these subsidies.
