Honduran midfielder Alex Lopez scored a superb goal on Wednesday night to give the Lagos Athletic Club a 1-0 win over Greece on day seven of the inaugural 2021 Costa Rican football tournament.
In the 18th minute of the match, El Craccho received a crucial pass from Aaron Suarez, entered the area and with his strong right hand hit the ball in the back to score the only goal at Alejandro Moreira Soto Stadium.
Lopez added his second goal in the tournament after converting a free kick against Guanacasteca on August 17.
In addition, so far in the tournament, Alex Lopez has collected 510 minutes of which he started in six. Now El Caracho is gearing up to join the Honduran national team and kick off the World Cup qualifying round with Bicolor making their first match against Canada on September 2 in Toronto.
Alajuelense maintained his winning streak and added three straight wins. With this win, the easy team reached 11 points and climbed to fourth, entering the battle for the lead.
The top spot in the tournament currently belongs to Deportivo Saprissa, who took the lead with a 4-0 win over Gicaral, with the same 13 points as Guadalupe and Santos, who also won their matches on the seventh day ending on Wednesday.
Saprissa, who leads on goal difference, beat Gicaral 4-0 on Tuesday with goals from Jimmy Marin, Michael Barantes and Ricardo Blanco and an own goal by Luis Carlos Fallas, in a match that could have been more successful.
On Wednesday, Santos beat Herediano 2-1 at home and reached the same 13 points as Saprissa, which Guadalupe also achieved on Tuesday with a 1-0 win away to Cartagenas Roger Rojas.
