Alex Aranburu (Movistar) stood on the podium on Sunday at the Montreal Grand Prix, a one-day World Tour race that was hotly contested on a tough circuit typical of a World Cup. The Ezquiota native, who had finished fourth on Friday at the Quebec Grand Prix, showed great form and was only denied victory by good movement from Adam Yates (UAE) and Pavel Sivakov (Ineos). And when the English and the French advanced, he had the strength to strike back and jump alone after them. His horse had run away, but he showed his legs to try to get back. He was overwhelmed, and despite the great effort he put in trying to link up with the lead, he managed to fire off the race of the selected chase group and hold on to first place without being caught.

Ion Izaguirre (Cofidis) also played a prominent role, as he was also involved in attacks in the final five kilometres. The man from Ormaiztegi was with the best on the final slopes of the circuit and fell into the Top10 more than wonderfully.
