Addams Family Returns

The Netflix series that promises to be the next hit on the streaming platform arrives to bring the story of the most controversial family in film and television to life

The most unusual family returns to the screen today, this time from the point of view of the youngest member of the family: Merlina.

With an excellent performance by Gina Ortega, the perfect scream queen for the new generation, according to film critics and international media, we will see the daughter of the Addams family in a new stage in her life on Wednesday.

And Merlina has grown up, not quite the same little girl who appeared in 1991’s The Addams Family. Now he’s in high school and must adjust to his new surroundings, as well as discover the mysteries that have always plagued his family.

The series is directed by Tim Burton, and this is his first production for the American streaming platform.

Plus, Wednesday marks the director’s return after three years without having worked on a production.

Burton is known for using elements of Gothic cinema of the 1920s and 1930s in most of his films. In his catalog he has films like Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Sleepy Hollow (1999), and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016).

Horror elements with touches of black humor are heavily present in his films and Wednesday will not be an exception.

The beginnings of the franchise

The terrible Addams Family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams for The New Yorker, appearing in comic form from 1938 to 1964.

The family consists of Gomez and Morticia Adams, parents of Pericles and Merlina, along with Uncle Lucas. The Addamses also have a butler named Lurch, the Thing, a serpent hand who walks through the rooms always accompanied by Lurch.

I jump to the screens The cartoonist’s idea was to create a parody of what was considered the norm for American homes at the time; This is why in the comics and other adaptations, the “crazy” Addams are seen as strange people by their environment.

“Crazy” Adams has received various modifications over time.

The first was in 1964 with a black comedy where each episode lasted 30 minutes on the ABC television network.

This comedy was developed by David Levy and stars Caroline Jones, John Astin, Jackie Coogan, Ted Cassidy, Blossom Rock, Kane Weatherwax, and Lisa Loring.

In 1991, The Addams Family was released in theaters in the United States. Unlike the TV series that adapted the Addams Family comic strips, the movie is based on an original story.

The film is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and has a screenplay by Tab Murphy, Bob Tzudiker, and Noni White.

In the film, the Addamses find themselves in financial trouble due to being cheated by their crooked attorney, Tully Alford.

To avoid fraud problems with the Addams family, Allford poses as Uncle Lucas and tries to steal the family fortune, but realizes it is more difficult than he thought.

In addition to series and movies, this story has also been adapted into books, video games, comics, and musicals. Wednesday is the most recent reimagining of the Addams Family to date.
