The Too Good to Go effect in La Rioja contributed 512 tons of food

he The Too Good to Go effect in La Rioja contributed 512 tons of food. By providing food through the app at more than 125 establishments, users in this community have contributed more than 128,000 food packages.

Logroño is the city with the largest number of establishments, more than 95, thanks to which more than 105,000 food packages have been preserved, equivalent to 250 tons of Co2eq preserved in the atmosphere.

Food waste is responsible for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and in Spain alone, around 8 million tons of food end up in the garbage each year (250 kilograms of food every second), according to FAO data.

With the aim of addressing this situation, Too Good To Go, the largest app dealing with food waste, has released data on the impact that its use has had on the part of users in La Rioja, where it is collaborating with more than 125 establishments that sell their surpluses for less through the app.

Among them are large stores such as Lupa and Alcampo supermarkets, NH and B&B hotel chains and establishments such as La Tagliatella, Muerde la Pasta and Udon, not to mention small businesses such as bakeries, greengrocery or deli stores.

Users using the app in this autonomous community have saved more than 128,000 food packages since Too Good To Go arrived in April 2021, the equivalent of more than 128 tons of food1 and 310 tons of Co2eq preserved in the atmosphere.

The company arrived in our country in September 2018 and there are already more than 6 million users catering through it across the country.

Too Good To Go is certified BCorp to reduce food waste and its consequences, including environmental impacts. The idea originated in Denmark in 2016, when a group of friends saw all the leftovers from a buffet.

Then they decided to create a mobile app that connects users with food companies that offer surprise packages with their daily surplus food at discounted prices. Today, the company is present in 17 countries in Europe, the United States and Canada, with more than 70 million users and more than 134,000 organizations linked to the initiative.

Thanks to its community of users and associated organizations, three surprise food boxes are saved every second, and more than 200 million packages have already been saved worldwide.

Nationwide, the Too Good To Go user community, along with the more than 16,000 organizations that have joined the initiative, have delivered more than 12 million packages. In doing so, more than 12,000 tons of food and more than 22,500 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent have been wasted throughout Spain so far.
