The office of Wyoming Governor, Mark Gordon (right), announced that he had contracted COVID-19, on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.
His office said in a statement The governor is suffering from minor symptoms and plans to operate remotely, he said CBS News.
The governor’s office said: “Governor Mark Gordon today received the results of a COVID-19 test that showed that he had the virus. “He is experiencing only minor symptoms at this time and plans to continue working on behalf of Wyoming from a distance.”
His diagnosis comes nearly a week after he implemented new coronavirus restrictions as the number of COVID-19 cases has soared in the state, as it has across the country.
Under rules announced last Thursday, indoor facilities can have only 25 percent capacity with social distancing and outdoor facilities can have 50 percent capacity with social distancing. Gordon did not mandate the mask, making Wyoming one of 13 states not requiring a face covering.
Wyoming, like most states, has seen a rapid increase in cases and hospitalizations this month. Overall, the state has confirmed 26,677 cases of COVID-19 and has documented 4,084 potential cases, according to The COVID Tracking Project.
The number of cases in the state increased by 21.7 percent in the past week, and 802 new cases were added Wednesday. The death toll in Wyoming has reached 215, and there are currently 226 people in hospital.
Gordon became the latest governor to test positive for the virus after Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (Democrat), Missouri Governor Mike Parson (right), and Oklahoma Governor Kevin State (right).
