UEFA is putting pressure on the UK

On July 11, the Euro 2020 final will take place but the question is where this match will take place. It was originally scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium in London, but UEFA threatened the United Kingdom to take the final and semi-finals to Budapest. In the UK, entry procedures are very restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic. All people entering the country from amber or red-listed areas will be required to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine. Only Australia, Brunei, Gibraltar, the Faroe Islands, the Falkland Islands, Iceland, Israel, New Zealand, Portugal and Singapore are on the country’s green list, and the rest are required to quarantine.

Because of these measures, about 2,500 VIPs who were initially attending the fourth final among UEFA staff, event sponsors and officials were unable to do so because most of them are not from countries belonging to the Green List, and therefore they will have to save those 10 days of stone .

Facing pressure and threats from UEFA, the UK government is considering granting an exemption from quarantine to these 2,500 people in the same way it did with footballers and members of delegations playing European Cup matches in London.

For this reason, UEFA is considering moving the fourth final of the tournament to Budapest because Puskas Arena is the only stadium in this European tournament for which there is no maximum capacity. We already saw how the ball touched in the first two matches against Portugal and France, with nearly 55,000 spectators filling the stands, something we didn’t see in the last year. Hungary is one of the most advanced countries in terms of vaccinating its population and for a month the procedures have become more flexible and the use of masks has ended.

I recall that both Manchester City and Chelsea asked to play the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium because they were two teams from the same country, but UEFA rejected this proposal and moved the final to Porto for the same reason, even the UEFA staff and sponsors could attend without Quarantine.
