Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) attacked the media in his opening statement and accused of them of pushing the Ukraine impeachment probe after having failed on tying the Russia allegations to President Trump.
“If these accounts had a familiar ring it’s because they are the same screaming headlines insisting President Trump was colluding with Russia… Media pretends they are something different than what they really are, puppets for the Democrat Party,” said Nunes.
Nunes labeled the media as a “puppet” of the Democrat party.
“If you watched the impeachment hearings last week, you may have noticed a disconnect between what you actually saw and the mainstream media accounts describing it,” Nunes said. “What you saw were three diplomats, who dislike the President’s Ukraine policy, discussing second-hand and third-hand conversations about their objections… they were unable to identify any crime or impeachable offense the President committed. But what you read in the press were accounts of shocking, damning, and explosive testimony that fully supports the Democrats’ accusations.”
“The media have joined the Democrats in dismissing the importance of cross-examining this crucial witness. Now that the Whistleblower has successfully kickstarted impeachment, he has disappeared from the story — as if the Democrats put the Whistleblower in their own Witness Protection Program,” Nunes added.
Nunes later in the hearing seemed to prove that Vindman had knowledge of who the whistleblower was after House Intelligence Committee Chairman cut into the questioning of the top Republican to say that Vindman did not have to answer a question because it could lead to who the whistleblower was.
