In one month, Universal is set to release its film adaptation of CATS, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name (which was based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats). A second trailer for the movie was released Tuesday, showcasing a star-studded cast and, well, a lot of CGI.
Playing the digitally-furred Jellicle cats, you’ll see Judi Dench (Old Deuteronomy), Jason DeRulo (Rum Tum Tugger), Jennifer Hudson (Grizabella), Idris Elba (Macavity), Ian McKellen (Gus), Taylor Swift (Bombalurina), Rebel Wilson (Jennyanydots), and James Corden (Bustopher Jones). The main kitty, Victoria, is played by dancer Francesca Hayward.
The adaptation is being directed and produced by Tom Hooper, who brought us Les Miserables and The King’s Speech. It will include all the original songs from the musical, as well as a new song by Webber and Swift entitled “Beautiful Ghosts”.

I have something to share.
The @catsmovie Twitter only follows one other account and I was curious to see what account that was. Is it ALW? The Cats musical account maybe?

Which were my feelings, exactly. The music, dancing, and acting will undoubtedly be phenomenal, but I wish they’d gone with real costumes. Also, they have HANDS and not PAWS.
Anyway, here’s the trailer, so you can judge for yourself.
I’m pretty much speechless, except for one question.
Is this cringe?
