President Donald Trump hosted a massive rally in Monroe, Louisiana last night where Republican Senator John Kennedy managed to steal the spotlight, at least for a minute.
President Trump invited the firebrand Republican Senator from Louisiana up on stage to help rally the crowd.
Senator Kennedy told the captive audience:
“Hello Louisiana! Thank you, Mr. President, for visiting our state. In three short years, President Trump has doubled the growth of the greatest economy in all of human history. And you know what our Democratic friends have done for him? Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to impeach him. I don’t mean any disrespect but it must suck to be that dumb!“
Senator John Kennedy then spun the Pelosi attack into an attack on incumbent Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards. He said Pelosi has been pouring tens of millions of dollars into the race and all Governor Edwards has given to Louisiana are “decline and uncertainty.”
Sen. Kennedy closed it off by saying:
“So unless you are happy with crappy, I want you to vote for Eddie Rispone for governor!”
President Trump decided to hold last night’s rally to boost voter turnout for Republican governor candidate Eddie Rispone.
Louisiana actually held it’s gubernatorial elections on October 12 of this year, however, no candidate won enough votes to secure the nomination. As a result, Eddie Rispone and John Bel Edwards are set for a final runoff on November 16, with early voting going on now.
President Trump told his supporters at last night’s rally, “I’m here for early voting. You’re going out to replace a Radical, liberal Democrat as your governor.”
Louisiana has a jungle election where multiple candidates from different parties can participate, but if no candidate secures a majority of votes then the top two enter a runoff. Edwards is still in his first term as Governor.
