Attorneys for the Trump Ukraine call whistleblower admitted on Monday that their client did have contact with multiple 2020 presidential candidates.
An admission by the attorneys read “…our client (the whistleblower) has come into contact with presidential candidates from both parties in their roles as elected officials – not as candidates.”
The new revelation confirms reports that the CIA whistleblower, who is registered Democrat, has met with Trump’s top 2020 opponents. This most likely includes former Vice President Joe Biden, Trump’s top Democrat opponent who was also the subject of the Ukraine call.
The official statement from the Whistleblower’s Attorneys reads:
In light of the ongoing efforts to mischaracterize whistleblower #1’s alleged “bias” in order to detract from the substance of the complaint, we will attempt to clarify some facts.
First, our client has never worked for or advised a political candidate, campaign, or party.
Second, our client has spent their entire government career in apolitical, civil servant positions in the Executive Branch.
Third, in these positions our client has come into contact with presidential candidates from both parties in their roles as elected officials – not as candidates.
Fourth, the whistleblower voluntarily provided relevant career information to the ICIG in order to facilitate an assessment of the credibility of the complaint.
Fifth, as a result, the ICIG concluded – as is well known – that the complaint was both urgent and credible.
Finally, the whistleblower is not the story.
To date, virtually every substantive allegation has been confirmed by other sources. For that reason the identity of the whistleblower is irrelevant.
The Intelligence Community Inspect General (ICIG) reported his own concerns over possible bias from the whistleblower as well, including his political affiliation and familiarity with President Trump’s opponents.
The Whistleblower also lied on the report he filed when he skipped a part of the form specifically asking if he had been in contact with any politicians or their staffs. It was later revealed he had met with Congressman Adam Schiff’s staff before filing the report.
Finally, the whistleblower who filed the report allegedly received the information from another source entirely who was on the phone call.
Republicans have been urging the release of the whistleblower’s identity so they can question him in person and, hopefully, eventually be able to question his source.
