Paul Sperry at Real Clear Investigations has now alleged that a CIA analyst Eric Ciaramella is Adam Schiff’s “whistleblower” and that he triggered the recent impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
Two months after the whistleblower filed his complaint the only thing that is known about him is that he is a CIA analyst who worked at the White House and currently works for the CIA.
Interestingly, the name Eric Ciaramella, 33, has been raised privately in impeachment proceedings, say officials with knowledge of the proceedings.
Democrats this week stopped Republicans from asking more questions about the whistleblower for fear of having his name leaked. They intend to redact his name from deposition transcripts.
He heard hearsay accusations against the president and the Intelligence Community Inspector General described his report as showing “some indicia of an arguable political bias … in favor of a rival political candidate.”
Eric Ciaramella is a registered Democrat and was hired on to the White House under Obama. He worked with Vice President Joe Biden and former CIA Director John Brennan.
When Lt. General H.R. McMaster was named Trump’s new national security adviser, Ciaramella served as McMaster’s personal aide. There were concerns of leaking at the time from the NSC. He currently works for the CIA at their headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
“He was accused of working against Trump and leaking against Trump,” said a former NSC official to Paul Sperry under the condition of anonymity.
Ciaramella worked with the Democratic National Committee operative Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American who backed Hillary Clinton, who dug up dirt on the Trump campaign during the 2016.
According to Sperry, Ciaramella’s name is known in the beltway and his name is being circulated in a research dossier on him. The classified document has been the subject of briefings. One Republican briefed on the matter has allegedly been planning to unmask the whistleblower in a speech on the House Floor.
“Everyone knows who he is. CNN knows. The Washington Post knows. The New York Times knows. Congress knows. The White House knows. Even the president knows who he is,” said Fred Fleitz, a former CIA analyst and national security adviser to Trump.
“They’re hiding him. They’re hiding him because of his political bias.”Fred Fleitz
Trump supporters want to know the name of the whistleblower so that the President can stand and face his accuser. Democrats want to protect the identity of the whistleblower. Democrat attorneys have warned that outing him would put his family “at risk of harm.”
Ciaramella is a CIA officer specializing in Russia and Ukraine and was detailed to the National Security Council in the summer of 2015, when he worked for Obama’s national security adviser Susan Rice.
According to federal records, Biden’s office invited Ciaramella to a luncheon with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in October 2016. At the party where CIA Director John Brennan, FBI Director James Comey and National Intelligence Director James Clapper.
U.S. officials told Real Clear Investigations that it was odd that Ciaramella got an invitation because of his low-level status as a GS-13 federal employee.
Former White House officials also told Real Clear Investigations that Ciaramella worked on Ukrainian policy issues for Biden in 2015 and 2016. This was during the years that Biden was President Obama’s “point man” for Ukraine.
Ciaramella graduate from Yale and reportedly speaks Russian, Ukrainian and Arabic. He was assigned to the NSC by John Brennan.
He was held over when Trump was elected President and oversaw the Ukraine desk at the NSC until June of 2017. He moved to the West Wing after.
“He was moved over to the front office” to fill a vacancy temporarily, said a former White House official. Ciaramella “saw everything, read everything.”
When interviewed, the same official said that Ciaramella obviously opposed Trump’s foreign policies.
“My recollection of Eric is that he was very smart and very passionate, particularly about Ukraine and Russia. That was his thing – Ukraine,” the White House official said. “He didn’t exactly hide his passion with respect to what he thought was the right thing to do with Ukraine and Russia, and his views were at odds with the president’s policies.”
“So I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the whistleblower,” the source said.
According to a co-worker at the NSC, Ciaramella went around “his chain of command” to send an email telling another agency that Trump held a meeting with Russian diplomats in the Oval Office a day after firing Comey. His email was cited in the Mueller Investigation report.
“In the morning on May 10, 2017, President Trump met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in the Oval Office.Mueller Report
The Ciaramella email somehow ended up in the media and shows Trump boasting to Russian diplomats that he fired Comey and calling him “crazy, a real nut job.”
A research dossier on the CIA agent is making its way through Congress. A copy of the report was obtained by Real Clear Investigations.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not find evidence of conspiracy between Trump and Putin, Ciaramella’s email was mentioned in the footnote of the report.
Ciaramella left the White House after Mueller was appointed.
The whistleblower complaint says that the president used “the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election.” It cited the July 25th phone call from the White House where Trump asked Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky to help him investigate the origins of the Russia collusion investigation started under the Obama administration.
The whistleblower filed his report with the I.C. inspector general on Aug. 12, but it was not publicly released until Sept. 26.
Before filing, he met with House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff’s staff for guidance. In 2019, Schiff recruited two of Ciaramella’s allies at the NSC. They are also fellow Obama holdovers to join his committee staff.
He hired Sean Misko in August – which is the same month that the whistleblower complaint was filed.
Republicans taking part in Schiff’s inquiry hearings have been saying his name at hearings and angering Schiff and Democrats, according to sources speaking to Real Clear Investigations.
“Their reaction tells you something,” said one official familiar with the inquiry.
During Tuesday’s hearing with NSC official Alexander Vindman, Democrats shut down a lilne of questioning because it could risk revealing the identity of the whistleblower. A shouting match began amongst Republicans and Democrats over whether Vindman could disclose who who Vindman spoke to in Trump’s administration about his concerns over the president’s Ukraine phone call.
Recently in an open House Natural Resources Committee hearing, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) asked a witness about “Eric Ciaramella of the Obama National Security Council.” You can watch the moment below in the video at the 2nd minute mark.
Gohmert then told a radio station in Dallas that he knows the whistleblower’s name.
“A lot of us in Washington know who it is,” Gohmert said, adding he’s a “very staunch Democrat” and that he “supposed to be a point person on Ukraine, during the time when Ukraine was its most corrupt, and he didn’t blow any whistles on their corruption.”
Ciaramella was accused of being a leaker while working with McMaster. These allegations were never proven.
He was outed in a Medium article written by Mike Cernovich in June of 2017. He claimed that the Obama-era aid wanted to “sabotage” Trump in 2017. Eric Ciaramella was described in it as “pro-Ukraine and anti-Russia.” These were alleged without evidence.
Cernovich wrote, “Nothing in his résumé indicates that Ciaramella will put America First. His entire life arc indicates he will sabotage Trump and leak information to the press whenever possible.”
On Thursday, Democrats will hold a House vote on deciding new impeachment procedures that would allow Republicans to call their own witnesses as long as it is approved by the Democrats first.
The most important witness of all in the Trump impeachment is the whistleblower and he will most likely remain protected from any criminal review.
