Imaad Zuberi admitted to illegally funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars from Saudi Oil Tycoon Sheikh Mohammed Al Rahbani into former President Barack Obama’s Second Inaugural Committee.
Imaad Zuberi, a major US political funder who donated millions to US politicians, pleaded guilty earlier this month to acting as the middleman to allow Sheikh al Rahbani to donate illegally to American political campaigns, including Obama’s.
Barack Obama was not the only major Democrat who enjoyed the illegal cash flow from Zuberi. He also served as one of the top fundraisers for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Presidential campaign.
After Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in November of 2016, Zuberi switched his support from primarily Democrats and donated roughly $1 billion to President Trump’s inaugural committee. It is unclear how much if any, of the donation to Trump’s fund came from foreign sources.
Imaad Zuberi also gave money to other prominent figures and organizations, including the Democrat National Committee, the Republican National Committee, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.).
According to the Associated Press, none of the candidates, campaigns, or organizations were aware of the origins of Zuberi’s political donations. He is the only person being charged with the crime.
The new report of Imaad Zuberi’s connection to Saudi Oil Tycoon Sheikh Mohammed Al Rahbani follows attacks from the left against President Trump accusing his campaign of taking aid from Ukraine to help him in the upcoming US election.
This new revelation proves that the issue of powerful foreign influence on American politics goes far beyond any party or candidate and is in no way exclusive to President Donald Trump.
It does make you wonder, however, if all of these political organizations and politicians were actually unaware of the foreign aid or if they simply chose to look the other way to benefit their own campaigns.
